In the late 1980’s the first practical implementation of vacuum glazing was achieved by Prof. Richard Collins of the Solar Energy Research Group at the University of Sydney, Australia. The result was a breakthrough product for the insulated glazings market with high thermal and acoustic insulation and an exceptional strength to weight ratio. Vacuum glazing offers the performance of triple glazing in a form factor equivalent to a single 6mm sheet of glass.
The University of Sydney has continued to lead the world in development of vacuum glazing, with many technology advancements throughout the 1990’s and since 2000.

USSS has worldwide exclusive rights to the broad suite of patents in vacuum insulated glazings developed by Prof. Collins and his team. USSS maintains close links with Prof. Collins and we are developing 2nd generation vacuum glazing technology at the University of Sydney to extend the market reach and lower the production cost for the product.
Commercial vacuum glazing product is manufactured by Nippon Sheet Glass (NSG) of Japan under licence from USSS. NSG has proven the manufacturing and field operational performance of this unique product over the past decade.
