Wind energy is the most economical of all renewable energy sources. The majority of technology development of late has, however, been addressed towards the production of exceptionally large wind turbines, many for offshore applications. The medium-scale market in the 30kW to 150kW range has remained under serviced.
The application for such turbines is agricultural businesses and commercial operations ranging from apple orchards to WalMart. By locating the turbine on the consumers’ side of the meter then the turbine can be used to offset electricity purchases from the grid. Similar turbines will also have application off grid in remote area power supplies, often as part of a hybrid solar & wind solution.
